Recommended by various animal welfare and advocate groups. Surprising reading with plenty of photos. Purchase now or request copies through your local municipal library! Equine Welfare Marthe Kiley-Worthington (1998) J. A. Allen & Co. London. This book is the first book about a single species which examines all the current arguments concerning animal welfare science, and applies them to whether what we do with our horses and how we keep them complies with maximizing their welfare. I read this book many years ago and it really got me thinking. This book should be on the recommended reading list of any equine course. You should be able to get this book either via your library or you can purchase it directly from the author at: www.horseridingfrance.com or www.eco-etho-recherche.com

The Welfare of Horses, Animal Welfare Notes Series Book 1 Dr Natalie Waran (ed), Springer Books, Dordrecht, Netherlands, 2007. This book is the first in a series on the welfare of animals, and it is appropriate that it addresses horses, whose welfare in modern management systems are a subject of major concern. The authors include internationally-recognised scientists from Britain, Ireland, USA and Australia.
